I feel the need to find my voice in a world where everyone seems to be shouting—not to add to the strident cacophony of our culture, but rather to offer a quiet counter-point. Gentleness instead of harshness. Invitation rather than accusation. I pray that any who stop to listen will be drawn near to the God who speaks in silence.
I hope that in these random thoughts and questions and observations, you will find the heart of the One who made you, knows you, and loves you. He began all things, He will end all things, and He walks beside us every step of the journey. I am learning to meet Him in the still places of my soul and even though I can neither see, hear, nor touch Him physically, He is the only solid thing I have to hold onto.
With Him at the center of my reality, all else falls into place. Everything—joy, sorrow, pain, pleasure, love, loss, anger, fear confusion—has meaning and purpose. I do not offer these words as a glib or easy answer. Nothing about this is easy. It is a wrestle every day to keep my eyes fixed with hope on Him while fully acknowledging and engaging the world around me.
I don’t seek to be known. I want to be small and still and quiet. But I hope you will join me in the call to be a somber optimist—one who seeks and sees God in every situation.
